Repackaging PROBLEMS

the bits I did were: packaging design, prototyping & artworking

While at Mountain Warehouse, there was a range that was in need of a bit of life. The team looked at the best direction and settled on a refreshed look. Nice.

The problem? There were over 30 different lines across 3 ranges and 3 departments. How was anyone going to know what's what? The solution we all worked on was to give each a distinct look that stayed visually cohesive

My job was to help translate that across everything, translating those looks into reality & find a way to make sure the packaging gets a technological refresh, revising the die-line and reducing the process/cost of the packaging. There was a focus on ditching the plastic product window so it could be 100% recyclable.

I spent time working with the CSR team and the packaging specialists to rework the packaging, ensuring it was fit for the chaos of clawing customers. It did the trick though, or at least I thought. I created physical mockups to help pitch the concept to CEO who loved it, and bought into the vision thanks to seeing the elements functioning so well together.

I then taught myself blender to 3D render the packaging so I could give it life before it hit the shelves. I wanted to see how everything would translate and I never miss the chance to learn something new. The little play button on the right there, hit that and give the packaging a look (it's fully interactive! Neat, right??).

The render helped give it life, but nothing beats seeing it in store (globally!) working as intended. This is just the vision that I was working towards when putting everything together.

The fact that each item is so quickly identifiable as its relevant department and range while all showing a new look is dreamy to me. I still think the tiny miniature scale version I made looked better, but for being shipped around the world, they hold the look together pretty well.
